Here you will find information and links to various
hardware and software that I have found useful in
various contexts.
>iDrum is
a very cool plug in for GarageBand produced by
iZotope - url: www.izotope.com or just click on the
picture on the right!
It adds a virtual beatbox into GarageBand. An
intgrated drum machine that allows you to easily
create rhythms - with the velocities drawn by the
height of the drawn 'note', see right. However, even
'cooler' is that you can easily add and change the
sample that the iDrum is using for each part of the
kit. I am intending to upload a few examples later.
It is a little pricey compared to some plug ins -
especially as we are so spoilt with all the
'freebies' in GB, retailing at $69.99 - but worth it
I believe.
What else?
iDrum can run as a standalone - and within GB it has
a sync button so that it wil play in sync when you
hit play in GB - or disable sync so that it plays
from within itself, on its own. Great for checking
the rhythms you create without the rest of the track.
You can store up to 99 patterns in a single iDrum
file.
There are part presets, but it has to be said that
creating rhythms is really easy and 'seeing' the
rhythms you create and the divisions of the beat is a
real bonus for students.
On the bottom right is a 'MIDI DRAG' icon. This
allows you to take the loops that you create and drag
them straight to the track display in GarageBand. Of
course the note data, the velocity levels etc and the
rhythms can now be played by GB instruments.
